DIARY OF AN ENGLISH SETTER

Dog training again tonight. I played with 2 big Weimaraners, they are same age as me. I had to run up and down the mat fast and so I laid down when I got to the end on the mat but Dad said I wasn't to do that! I stood still for the lady to touch me but it tickles so I wagged my tail a lot and tried to jump up and down at her. She was laughing but Dad said I'm not to do that either. He's a spoilsport! Anyway it was very tiring but Great Fun!

Today I have been playing in the garden a lot. Dad has been doing some cutting down of bushes and there are lots of nice twigs for me to run around with. That Blue is too quick for me and she tries to get them off me. I like digging holes everywhere but Dad very kindly puts lots of new soil in again to fill it up and I can dig it out again. Great fun!

It was raining inside today. Mum went to work in the morning and whilst she was out it rained very very hard outside then it came in through the ceiling a bit. Bailey stayed on his chair even though his paws and nose were getting quite wet whilst it dripped through. When mum came home we were up at the window waiting for her. She thought we had been naughty and wee-wee'd everywhere at first, then she was upset and worried why our beds were all wet. I didn't like getting wet much. Something about the roof leaking? Lots of rushing around and we weren't allowed in there again. Never mind I went outside and got wet instead! The gate is closed on that room until it is all fixed, and I like looking out that window!
Tonight it was dog training at Reighton and I met lots of nice friends again. Dad said I was very good and will soon be going to proper big shows to meet more setters and more friends, after lots more practicing that is! I had to have a little snooze before we came home as it was hard work. RUBY

Auntie Rosie came to see us today. I remember she came to see us when my brothers and sisters were here as well. She doesn't seem to like her toes licking much, but I just want to make sure they are nice and clean for her! Mum says she is coming again on Sunday to give me my lunch and look after us for a little while whilst she is out, and I have to be a very good girl - aren't I always? I will have to think up a nice surprise for her when she gets here to make her welcome. RUBY

My sister came home this weekend, don't know where she's been, so now I have a puppy my age to play with its great fun. Mum went to work this morning and while she was out we had a good time eating the chair in our room. Bailey likes sitting on that chair but he was in the other room so we chewed all the arms and then when we scratched the seat all the stuffing came out. Mum wasn't pleased when she came home because the floor was covered in stuffing all over the place. We were tired though as it was hard work getting all that stuffing out and it didn't taste that nice either. RUBY

When mum got up this morning she was cross with us again. It was Blue's fault. She saw the telephone had been left out in the kitchen and grabbed it so we had to chase her. We all had a good chew and now it is broken so mum's had to buy another one. She couldn't help but laugh at us really! We try to be good but everything is so exciting. RUBY
UPDATE 13 DECEMBER 2007
Hello everybody. Sorry I haven't written for a while but I have been very busy causing mischief with my litter sister. We have been to a few dog training/ringcraft classes together but do seem to cause a bit of trouble somehow. The things I have been doing at home have been lots of fun - these include:
Running round after Penny and Blue, especially if they have a toy or a chew.
Digging in the garden and burying our chews. Then bringing them inside again when they are all nice and muddy for mum to try and get off us.
The garden is quite wet and muddy now so when we have been playing and then come inside all the floor gets very dirty, its best when we roll in the mud and/or dog muck too!
Mum will leave things out for us to get and then blames us when we play with them - a tub of cotton buds were quite fun to play with but didn't taste so nice. I have also had a bag of potatoes all over the floor and they were good to chase. I tried each of them but they weren't very nice either, we just left our teeth marks in them to show we had been there.
I have found how to get onto the worktop in the kitchen and sometimes sit in the sink to try and drink the water. That means I can also reach other things on the window ledge like the dishcloths and I especially like the green pan scrubbers, you can really pull them to pieces. I have broken some glasses up there though and had to watch as they were a bit sharp. Mum doesn't seem very happy when she comes into the kitchen to find me in the sink and she tells me off, especially when she sees all the paw marks over the kitchen worktops.
I quite like watching the TV when it is on, I tried changing channels with the remote control but it didn't seem to want to work so I took the batteries out as well. Its quite chewed now but mum can work some of it.
I like stealing the hand towels and tea towels and taking them for a run round the garden. I do bring them back to mum but she isn't pleased as she says they are all dirty now.
Well I have to go and get up to more mischief - we need to keep mum busy don't we?!
We will be 6 months old on Sunday and are going to our first dog show. That should be fun. We will keep you informed of what happens there. I think we need to cause a bit of havoc don't you?!
